What is an FBO or Fixed Base Operator in Aviation?

 

El término FBO corresponde a las siglas Fixed Base Operator, o lo que es lo mismo en castellano, Operador de Base Fija. Y hace referencia a cualquier compañía que posee una licencia para operar en un aeropuerto concreto realizando diferentes servicios de handling aeroportuario o business aviation.

Entre los servicios de handling aeroportuario que desarrollan las compañías de aviación FBO están: limpieza de los aviones, catering, repostaje, carga de equipaje o posicionamiento de aviones en los hangares, entre muchos otros que posteriormente detallaremos.

No solo se opera sobre las aeronaves, sino que un FBO puede realizar también servicios de briefing en el aeropuerto.

Por tanto, un Operador de Base Fija (FBO) ofrece desde servicios básicos de asistencia en tierra a aeronaves hasta un buen número de servicios exclusivos para pasajeros o tripulación que pueden ser llevados a cabo incluso en dependencias adyacentes a las terminales de los aeropuertos.
